The XMART project is an industrial collaboration with Industria de Turbopropulsores S.A (ITP) aiming at studying the effect of porosity and its distribution on MAR-M-247 tensile and fatigue test specimens. The porosity will be investigated by X-ray computed tomography for further correlation with the fracture surface and the mechanical tests. XMART project will be carried out by the Micro- and Nano- mechanics group of IMDEA Materials Institute joining their know-how in advance characterization of materials and image analysis techniques. The quantitative 3D information obtained in this project is very useful for understanding the fracture mechanisms in these materials. The Video 1 shows the crack surface of the broken specimens superimposed with the pore spatial distribution of the unbroken specimen. This allows to relate the spatial distribution of pores with the crack path, thus allowing to understand better the effect of defects in the mechanical properties of the material.
