"High temperature nanoindentation"
The overall aim of the project is to develop new nanomechanical testing capabilities at high temperatures. Nanoindentation is now a mature nanomechanical characterization technique. However, the efforts so far to use this technique at high temperatures have come across several problems such as the sensitivity of the technique to thermal drift and the interpretation of the experimental results. Hotnano will work on overcoming these instrumental limitations to apply nanoindentation at high temperatures to a range of structural materials, from advanced composites to nanostructured metals and ceramics.
