Al and Mg nanocomposites

Short Bio 

Dr. Carmen Cepeda graduated in Chemistry at the University of Alicante in 1997, where she got a PhD degree in Chemistry in 2001. The main research line during the PhD was based on the surface treatment by low pressure plasma to improve surface energy and interfacial mechanical properties. In the course of her PhD studies, she performed a stay at the “School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering” of the University of Surrey (UK).

In 2002, she joined Celme Company under the Torres Quevedo program, as head of the laboratory of treatment and surface characterization of materials, with the target of the technological transference of a surface treatment equipment based on ultraviolet radiation combined with ozone.

In 2005, she joined the National Centre for Metallurgical Research (CENIM-CSIC), where she worked as a Juan de la Cierva fellow on the processing of multilayer materials (Al and Ti) with high strength and outstanding damage tolerance. In addition, she participated in different research projects on the processing of advanced metallic alloys by severe plastic deformation techniques. The objective is to establish processing-microstructure-property relationships of light-weight materials with high strength, low density and improved toughness for the transport industry.

Nowadays she works as research associate in IMDEA Materials Institute for the study of the microstructure and mechanical properties of nanocomposites based on Al and Mg alloys.

During her career Dr. Cepeda-Jiménez has published around forty scientific papers in peer-reviewed international journals, two book chapters, and she has co-authored 24 presentations in national and international conferences.
