Experts in Materials Science and Engineering to Gather at IMDEA Materials Institute to Discuss Innovative Defense Technologies

The workshop “Materials for Better Defense” will take place on December 5, featuring cutting-edge topics such as advanced battery technologies for vehicles and lightweight aircraft, the latest advancements in material characterization, and the performance of steel under extreme conditions.

Researchers will also showcase innovations in metamaterials and structural composites, emphasizing their crucial role in enhancing the performance and durability of defense systems.

The event will be led by five of IMDEA Materials’ Principal Investigators: Dr. Juan José Vilatela, Dr. Johan Christensen, Dr. Federico Sket, Dr. Ilchat Sabirov, and Prof. Carlos González.

“By addressing challenges such as reducing weight without compromising strength, improving the resilience of materials under extreme conditions, and advancing diagnostic technologies, the workshop aims to provide military professionals and researchers with the tools needed to secure the next generation of defense capabilities,” said Prof. José Manuel Torralba, Director of the IMDEA Materials Institute and Corresponding Member of ACAMI.
