Tissue Engineering and Biomedical Materials Group Research Lines
The goal of the group is to develop new biomaterials for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. To do this, we exploit different biomaterial sources to fabricate scaffolds, mainly ECM derived materials specific to the target tissue to repair. In addition, we look for different reinforcement strategies of such scaffolds to widthstand the challenging loads passing through the body. In addition, we sought to define new ways to produce scalable microfeatures in order to tailor architecture of our scaffolds and study how cells respond to these environments.
We have expertise on biomaterial processing, 3D bioimplant fabrication through: advanced freeze-drying, 3D printing, bioprinting or 4D bioprinting; biochemical analysis, histologycal analysis, SEM of biological samples.
Biomaterials
Development of Extracellular matrix derived biomaterials and focusing on the tissue-specificity of the target tissue to repair.
Metamaterials
Advanced design of structural reinforcements for tissue engineering applications, based on the use of simulations and computational modelling techniques.
Microarchitectures
(Bio)Fabrication of biomimetic microarchitectures using advanced freeze-casting techniques, 3D (bio)printing for biomedical applications, including disease modelling.
