Current Projects
iCELLS-CM aims to transform cellular and tissue mechanobiology and expand its therapeutic applications by developing innovative, modular mechanobiological labs-on-chips that enable a pioneering multiscale approach to studying the effects of mechanical stimuli on cells and tissues. These devices will integrate macro-level tissue scaffolds, meso-level organoids, and micro-level bio-MEMS to investigate biological responses across scales, and for the first time will be complemented by digital twins based on neural cellular automata models trained with experimental data and supported by finite element simulations to predict cellular behavior. The project will apply this technology to major global health challenges, including diabetes and related ulcers, cancer and breast cancer metastasis, and tissue engineering for bone regeneration and angiogenesis, while promoting open science, innovation, and international leadership in mechanobiology.
