We are very happy to welcome Pablo Varela as a new PhD student in the BCD Group.

Pablo is a biologist from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and holds an MSc in Advanced Materials Science and Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. His previous experience focuses on the study of scaffolds for tissue regeneration, having participated in research projects in both Chile and Spain.

In 2024, he joined IMDEA Materials as a Research Engineer working on XCT-based material characterization projects. He is currently pursuing his PhD within the iCells project, where his research explores how mechanical stimuli in in vitro models can influence diseases such as diabetes, breast cancer, and osteoporosis, with the goal of identifying new therapeutic targets.

We are delighted to have his expertise, curiosity, and multidisciplinary background joining the team, and we look forward to the exciting research and collaborations that will emerge during this new stage.
