Region: Industrial
Project period: 2010 – 2011
Partners: National consortium of companies (CESA, Sener, Indra, Aernnova, ARESA, among other companies of the aerospace sector) and several research organizations.
Principal Investigator: Drs. Carlos Gonzalez (carlosdaniel.gonzalez@imdea.org) and Javier Segurado (javier.segurado@imdea.org)
SINTONIA is a CENIT project (National Strategic Consortium of Technical Research) led by Boeing Research & Technology Europe S.L. and aims at developing new technologies focused on minimizing the environmental impact and increasing the efficiency of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by life cycle improvement.
IMDEA Materials Institute contributes on a couple of aspects of this project: (i) collaborates with Aernnova Engineering Solutions Ibérica on the advanced characterization of materials for morphing applications manufactured by rapid-prototyping (extension of Morphing materials for aeronautic applications project); and (ii) collaborates with Aries Complex Aeronáutica on the processing of composite panels by Same Qualified Resin Transfer Molding (SQRTM). The results will by compared, in terms of energy efficiency and processing time, with traditional Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) techniques.
