DESCRIPTION OF THE EQUIPMENT
The equipment combines a Dual Cone Calorimeter (Dual Cone Calorimeter, Fire Testing Technology Limited) with an in-house developed Tensile Testing System for simultaneous fire exposure and mechanical loading.
This advanced experimental setup combines a cone calorimeter with an in-house tensile testing system. The sample is exposed to a controlled external heat flux, as in a standard cone calorimeter test, while a uniaxial tensile load is applied in real time. Parameters such as heat release rate, time to ignition, mass loss, and mechanical response (e.g., strain and stress evolution) are recorded simultaneously. This technique is particularly relevant for structural polymers and composites used in load-bearing applications. It enables a more realistic assessment of material performance in fire scenarios, bridging the gap between bench-scale fire testing and real-world conditions.
