Last Monday, IMDEA Materials Institute had the pleasure of welcoming the Rector of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), Prof. Óscar García Suárez, along with a university delegation, to discuss ways to strengthen and expand the existing ties between our two institutions.
IMDEA Materials and UPM share a long and close relationship, as the Institute was originally hosted in a space provided by the university at its School of Civil Engineering back in 2007.
Since then, a large proportion of the more than 100 researchers who have completed their PhDs at IMDEA Materials have done so through doctoral programmes at UPM.
In the latest QS World University Rankings 2025, UPM was named among the top 100 universities in the world in the field of Engineering & Technology and was the leading Spanish university in this area.
During Monday’s meeting, the UPM delegation was presented with an overview of the Institute’s activities, including key research lines and capabilities, with the aim of strengthening mutual understanding and expanding the important collaboration between the two institutions.
Following the meeting, the delegation toured the Institute’s facilities to gain a first-hand look at its infrastructure and research capabilities. We thank all attendees for their time and interest in our ongoing research efforts.
