On December 5th, IMDEA Materials will host the workshop “Materials for Better Defense”, an event designed for those interested in discovering how advanced materials are transforming the world of defense.
Five experts from IMDEA Materials will lead the session: Dr. Juan José Vilatela, Dr. Johan Christensen, Dr. Federico Sket, Dr. Ilchat Sabirov, and Prof. Carlos González. Throughout the day, we will explore the latest innovations in materials that enhance performance, reduce weight, and improve resilience in critical applications.
This workshop is not only a chance to learn about cutting-edge research but also an opportunity to connect directly with professionals shaping the future of this important field.
The event is organized in collaboration with the Academy of Military Sciences and Arts (ACAMI) and the IMDEA Materials Institute, a leading research center in materials science for sectors such as defense.

10:30 AM – “Material characterization through 2D, 3D, and 4D X-ray imaging”
Dr. Federico Sket, Principal Investigator of the Processing and In-situ Characterization Group, will explore how advanced imaging techniques can revolutionize material analysis.

11:30 AM – “Structural composites for lightweight applications: design, manufacturing, and performance”
Prof. Carlos González, Principal Investigator of the Structural Composites Group, will delve into innovative approaches for creating stronger, lighter composite materials.

Dr. Ilchat Sabirov, Principal Investigator of the Physical Simulation Group, will discuss state-of-the-art developments in steel for high-stress environments.
