DELIGHTED partners successfully organized the Symposium “Alloy and Microstructural Design of Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS) to Improve Their Performance”

The DELIGHTED consortium successfully organized the Symposium “Alloy and Microstructural Design of Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS) to Improve Their Performance” as part of the 7th International Conference of Engineering Against Failure (ICEAF) on June 21, 2023, on Spetses Island, Greece. The primary objective of this Symposium was to disseminate the recent developments in the design and development of AHSS, as well as to encourage further advancements in this research field. The Symposium facilitated networking opportunities and international collaboration within this exciting domain of science and technology.

During the event, researchers from the DELIGHTED consortium delivered exciting presentations on various aspects of AHSS. The Symposium also attracted external experts. Notably, Prof. Mahesh Somani from the University of Oulu, the invited speaker, presented a talk on direct quenching and partitioning for novel tough ultrahigh strength steels developed at their department. Faisal Waqar Syed from the Max-Planck Institute for Iron Research discussed the understanding of Mn and C segregation at the phase boundary in medium Mn steel. Prof. Sergio Cicero provided insights into the fracture characterization of structural steel S690Q using mini-CT specimens. Additionally, Prof. Eckehard Mueller from Bochum University presented an exciting talk on the distribution of residual stresses at welding seams performed at structural steels S235 and S355.

The organizers express their gratitude to all the presenters and attendees for their participation in the Symposium and hope to meet again at the next ICEAF VIII Conference.
