IMDEA Materials joins international efforts in advanced materials innovation for a low-carbon future

IMDEA Materials Institute recently took part in the Spain–China Innovation Forum in Advanced Materials for Low Carbon Transition and Industrial Competitiveness, held in Beijing, China.

Represented by our Director of Projects and Technology, Miguel Ángel Rodiel, the forum aimed to strengthen scientific and technological cooperation between Spain and China in the field of advanced materials.

The event was jointly organised by the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) of the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, and the China Science and Technology Exchange Center (CSTEC). It was supported by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, the Embassy of Spain in Beijing, and the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.

During the event, a Spanish delegation composed of ten representatives from organisations with R&D capabilities in advanced materials presented their research lines and strategic priorities.

The goal? To identify opportunities for collaboration with Chinese institutions and companies.

The areas of expertise covered a wide range of topics: from the design, engineering, characterisation and simulation of advanced materials to additive manufacturing, metallurgy, reinforced composites, nanotechnology, the circular economy and sustainability.

Rodiel’s participation highlighted IMDEA Materials’ role as a centre of excellence in the research and development of new materials, as well as its commitment to the transition towards a low-carbon economy and sustainable industrial competitiveness.

This forum was part of the Spanish delegation’s mission to China, “Innovation Dialogue on Advanced Materials”, held from 21 to 24 October and promoted by CDTI.

The delegation also visited major Chinese companies such as Beijing Easpring Material Technology (Beijing) and SEMCORP (Shanghai), as well as world-class academic institutions such as Zhejiang University (Hangzhou) and the Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute (Shanghai), an entity belonging to the National Innovation Centre for Excellence (NICE).
