IMDEA Materials will join the seven other IMDEA Institutes at the upcoming Feria Madrid es Ciencia 2025, held from March 27 to 29 at IFEMA MADRID, to present an exciting series of interactive demonstrations and experiments.
The event, which attracts thousands of visitors each year, aims to foster scientific curiosity, promote innovation, and inspire the next generation of scientists.
This year, IMDEA Materials will highlight a range of advanced research and technologies that play a critical role in addressing global challenges. The institute’s stand will feature several hands-on activities designed to engage both young audiences and curious visitors of all ages.
A Glimpse Into the Future of Materials Science
Among the activities planned for the event are 3D printing demonstrations showcasing the capabilities of polymers such as TPU, PLA, ABS, and PP. Attendees will gain insights into how these materials are shaping industries by enabling the creation of functional prototypes.
Another highlight will be the demonstration of flame retardants and their integration into polymers, illustrating how these additives enhance safety by making materials more fire-resistant. Visitors will also have the opportunity to see how shape memory materials work, returning to their original form under certain conditions, a feature with broad applications in medicine, aerospace, and engineering.
IMDEA Materials will also offer a live cell analysis session using optical microscopes, providing a closer look at the intricate structures of living cells. Additionally, visitors will explore the impressive mechanical properties of advanced magnesium and aluminum alloys used in high-performance applications such as aerospace, as well as witness the impact resistance of composite materials.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Scientists
The Feria Madrid es Ciencia is designed to make science accessible and exciting for all. By showcasing these innovative experiments, IMDEA Materials aims to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators, encouraging young minds to consider careers in science and technology.
“This event is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate how research and innovation are addressing some of the most pressing challenges of our time,” said Juan León, one of the Institute’s participating researchers.
“It also allows us to engage with the public and share the exciting work being done at our institute.”
The Feria Madrid es Ciencia is not only a celebration of science and technology, but also an opportunity to showcase the region’s commitment to sustainable development. IMDEA Materials, through its participation, underscores the vital role of science, technology, and innovation in achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
As one of the leading research institutes in the region, IMDEA Materials continues to play a pivotal role in advancing cutting-edge research in materials science, with the ultimate goal of contributing to a more sustainable and technologically advanced future.
