IMDEA Materials’ Principal Researcher, Prof. Dr. De Yi Wang, has been awarded an Honorary Professorship by China’s Xi’an Jiaotong University during a special ceremony held at the Institute.
In presenting the honour, the university’s President, Prof. Zhang Liqun, highlighted Prof. Wang’s exceptional scientific contributions to the field of materials science and engineering.
He also commended Wang’s significant role in strengthening the collaboration between Spain and China in science and technology over recent years while underlining his outstanding scientific contributions and his immense efforts in fostering the science and technology ties between our two countries.
As leader of the Institute’s High Performance Polymers and Fire Retardants research group during the past 12 years, Prof. Wang, has been a key figure in advancing materials research in this field.
Elected as a member of the European Academy of Sciences in 2024, he is a world-renowned expert in the field of fire-safe materials and is among the pioneers in developing flame-retardant nanoengineering technology for polymeric materials.
His current research also focuses heavily on devising fire-safe engineering strategies for lithium-ion batteries and energy storage materials.
Receiving the award, Prof. Wang expressed his gratitude and commitment to furthering international cooperation in scientific research. This honorary recognition comes as a testament to his influential work in both academia and the promotion of cross-border partnerships in the materials science sector.
This accolade also reinforces Prof. Wang’s role in improving ties between Spanish and Chinese research communities.
