Prof. José Manuel Torralba takes office as a full member of the Royal Academy of Engineering

On Tuesday, IMDEA Materials Institute’s Prof. José Manuel Torralba was formally inducted as a full member of the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAI). Prof. Torralba is a Senior Researcher and former Director of the IMDEA Materials, as well as Professor at the Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M).

This appointment is a recognition of his decorated research career and his contributions in the fields of metallurgy and powder technology.

During the ceremony, held at the RAI headquarters in Madrid, Prof. Torralba was accompanied by a large representation from IMDEA Materials and UC3M, as well as family, friends, and former PhD students.

“My personal experience of the inauguration ceremony was very gratifying,” said Prof. Torralba afterwards.

“I was fortunate and honoured to be accompanied by a significant part of my family, colleagues from both IMDEA Materials and the University, collaborators, friends, and especially former PhD students and doctors who have worked with me throughout all these years.”

“The Academy also made a great effort in organising the event, which made it unforgettable for me. I don’t think one could have a better start in an institution. I join the Academy with great enthusiasm and an enormous desire to work,” he added.

At IMDEA Materials, we feel very proud to have been present on such a special day, with the attendance of our Director, Jon Molina, Deputy Director, Damien Tourret, our Manager, Covadonga Rosado, as well as several group leaders, current and former researchers, and members of our administration.

We would like to once again congratulate Prof. Torralba on this well-deserved recognition.
