Thursdays June 18th and June 25th
IMDEA Materials
Creative June is a training initiative consisting of two creativity and innovation workshops focused on advanced materials, problem-solving methodologies, and the use of generative artificial intelligence in materials science and engineering design.
Workshop 1 (June 18th 10:00-13:00)
Creativity promotion tools applied to lightweight design: materials out of the box and the TRIZ problem-solving methodology
The first workshop introduces the problem-solving process and the commonly accepted stages of the creative thinking process: generate, combine, select. A variety of tools for “thinking out of the box” will be presented and applied in teams to solve a lightweight design problem employing innovative materials and production tools. The TRIZ methodology for creative and systematic problem-solving will be also introduced and applied to product reengineering through novel materials.
Workshop 2 (June 25th, 10:00-13:00)
Cocreating smart and engineered living materials with generative artificial intelligences: from taxonomies and codes to concepts and designs
The second workshop will focus on strategies for constructively interacting with generative artificial intelligences for accelerating the discovery and application of advanced, smart and living materials. The role of taxonomies, ontologies and codification schemes for taming generative AIs as design companions will be discussed and exemplified. Teams of participants will apply the taxonomy of engineered living materials to generate application concepts in energy, transport, space and healthcare, among other industrial fields, based on their preferences. The training will be applied to ongoing research projects of participants and supported by case studies from a variety of projects linked to advanced additive manufacturing and bioinspired, smart and living materials.
