Abstract:

This work develops a novel physical simulation approach using the GLEEBLE thermo-mechanical simulator to replicate additive manufacturing thermal conditions in a controlled laboratory environment. By reproducing the rapid solidification and thermal cycling characteristic of Laser Powder Bed Fusion and Directed Energy Deposition processes, the work systematically investigates how thermal history drives microstructural evolution and influences mechanical performance in stainless steel 316L.
