IMDEA Materials’ ATENEA programme announces selection of postdoctoral fellows

IMDEA Materials Institute is pleased to announce the successful completion of the selection process for the ATENEA call, marking an important milestone in the implementation of this Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) COFUND programme coordinated by IMDEA Materials Institute.

Following a highly competitive international call, an independent evaluation process involving external experts, interviews and an ethics assessment resulted in the selection of 10 excellent postdoctoral researchers, who will join IMDEA Materials to develop ambitious research projects addressing key challenges in materials science and engineering.

The selected fellows will carry out 30-month research projects, with recruitment expected to begin towards the end of 2026. During their fellowships, they will benefit from advanced scientific training, international and intersectoral mobility, secondments with leading organisations, and a comprehensive career development programme.

The selected research projects cover a broad range of topics that contribute to addressing societal challenges in the fields of transport, energy and health, including:

  • Integrated Computational Materials Engineering for Transport, Energy and Health
  • Design and Discovery of Novel Materials for Transport, Energy or Health
  • Biological Sensors for Smart Medical Devices
  • Multiscale Characterisation of Materials for Transport, Energy and Health
  • Enhanced Toughness in Metamaterials
  • Smart Manufacturing of Structural Composites
  • In situ Investigation of Microstructural Effects on Hydrogen-Induced Dislocation Activity
  • Fire-Safe Polymers
  • Multiscale Modelling of Irradiation Effects on the Mechanical Response of Materials
  • Plastic Waste Recycling

These projects reflect the multidisciplinary nature of the ATENEA programme and its commitment to fostering cutting-edge research with the potential to generate scientific, technological and societal impact.

The ATENEA consortium would like to congratulate all selected fellows and thank every applicant for the high quality of the proposals submitted. The strong international response to the first call demonstrates the attractiveness of the programme and reinforces its mission to support excellent researchers in developing innovative solutions for some of today’s most pressing materials science challenges.

We look forward to welcoming our ATENEA Fellows to IMDEA Materials and to following their scientific achievements over the coming years.
