  1. Time, Place, PhD thesis Title

The Ph.D work is entitled as “Ignition Delaying and Smoke Suppression Study of Fire-Retardant Polymer Composites” under the supervision of Dr. De-Yi Wang. This event will be taking place at 12:00am (16th, July) in “Seminar Room” of ETS de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos (ETSI Caminos, UPM).

  1. Brief Introduction of Ph.D work

Fire hazard of polymers causes enormous losses of fatality and property. The integral fire-hazard assessment is involved in ignition behavior, heat release, smoke production and toxic effluents. Heat release behavior of different fire-retardant polymers has been sysmatically investigated. The ignition-delaying and smoke-suppression study of fire-retardant polymers is seldom involved, particularly in terms of nanofillers-based polymers. The thesis aims at the study of ignition delaying and smoke suppression of fire-retardant polymers. The hierarchical nanostructure-based solutions to delay ignition and suppress smoke are rationally exploited with mechanism investigation at different levels (molecule, mesoscale and macroscale) separately. The structure-property relationship toward delayed ignition and suppressed smoke has been established at different levels.
