Seminar of Prof. Marisol – Martín González, from the Instituto de Micro y Nanotecnología, entitle “Nanoengineering thermoelectrics to improve their efficiency: some examples” – At 12:00 am in the Seminar Room

Short summary of her group Functional Nanoscale Devices for Energy Recovery Group (FINDER) (Instituto de Micro y Nanotecnología)

Their research is focused on the optimization of thermoelectric devices via nanostructuration. A thermoelectric device is  able to transform temperature differences into electrical energy, and vice-versa. In order to increase the efficiency of those materials, the group works in nano-engineering thermoelectric materials using different fabrication techniques (electrochemistry, SPS, sputtering, etc.). The crystallographic and morphological characterization (SEM, AFM, XRD, micro-RAMAN, profilometry, etc.) is also made within the group. And transport properties, which are relevant for thermoelectric efficiency such as electrical conductivity (s), carrier density (Hall effect), thermal conductivity (k), thermal diffusivity (a) and Seebeck coefficient are also measured in order to optimized the efficiency.
