Floatech, the Madrid-based startup and the first spin-off of the IMDEA Materials Institute, is celebrating the inauguration of its new facilities at the Tecnogetafe Technology Park in Getafe (Madrid) on Monday, February 17.
Founded in 2021, Floatech specialises in manufacturing silicon anodes for next-generation lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), which are essential for the future of electric mobility. Its technology enables up to ten times more charge storage than conventional materials, driving more efficient and sustainable electromobility.
Its solvent- and polymer-free manufacturing process reduces production costs and CO₂ emissions, offering a scalable and sustainable solution. The international market for these anodes is valued at over €36 billion, with an expected annual growth rate of 18% between 2022 and 2032.
The event will feature speeches from Fernando Celaya, CEO of Floatech; José Manuel Torralba, Director of IMDEA Materials; Francisco Badía from Grow Venture Partners; and Dr. Andrés Ubierna, Head of the Technology Business Capitalization Department at CDTI.
Floatech has already begun sales in Europe and the U.S. and aims to expand into Asia. Ranked among the top startups in innovation programs such as NEOTEC and the Community of Madrid initiatives, its technology was developed within European Research Council (ERC) excellence projects.
