For the second year running, 10 IMDEA Materials Institute researchers have been included in Stanford University’s annual lists of the world’s top scientists.
The result reinforces the Institute’s reputation as a centre for excellence, with the Stanford ranking based on the records of more than 8 million active scientists worldwide.
The top ranking IMDEA Materials’ researcher on the list was the Institute’s Scientific Director, Prof. Javier LLorca, considered among the leading 0.25% of scientists globally.
Notably, Prof. LLorca, the head of IMDEA Materials’ Bio/Chemo/Mechanics of Materials research group, was also ranked as of the world’s top 250 researchers out of the nearly 300,000 considered in the subfield of Materials Science.
Stanford University publishes two rankings annually, with the first dedicated to research activities from the previous 12 months, while the second is based on lifetime achievement.
The rankings are based on bibliometric data from the Scopus database, and are considered the most prestigious of their kind. They consider information relating to the number of citations per publication (h-index) and the researcher’s relevance to the published works (hm-index).
Alongside Prof. LLorca, other IMDEA Materials scientists to feature on both of this year’s career and annual rankings are the Institute’s Director, Prof. José Manuel Torralba and Principal Investigators Dr. De-Yi Wang, Dr. Teresa Pérez Prado, Prof. Javier Segurado and Dr. Ilchat Sabirov.
Prof. Carlos González, leader of the Institute’s Structural Composites research group was included in the lifetime achievement ranking, while Dr. Maciej Haranzcyk, Dr. Johan Christensen and Dr. Rouhollah Tavakoli featured on the 2023 list based on their research efforts over the previous 12 months.
The list includes more than half of IMDEA Materials’ current principal researchers. In addition to the Institute’s current researchers, three former IMDEA Materials scientists were also included, among whom we would like to highlight and make a very special mention of Dr. Cláudio S. Lopes (dec.).
