Last Thursday, February 21, IMDEA Materials hosted a delegation from the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE), a leading international research centre in its field.
The purpose of the visit, in addition to allowing the CIMNE delegation to experience firsthand IMDEA Materials’ laboratories and activities, was to explore synergies and identify collaboration mechanisms.
Several research lines were proposed during the meeting, and it was agreed to launch joint projects. Specifically, one of the areas with the greatest complementarity identified between both institutions was the development of simulation tools for advanced manufacturing processes of metallic materials.
The meeting was attended by Eugenio Oñate, Anna Font, Javier Bonet, Michele Chiumenti, Fernando Salazar, and Pedro Diez from CIMNE, and by Jose Manuel Torralba, Jon Molina, Covadonga Rosado, Javier Llorca, Rosa Bazán, Mar García, Ignacio Romero, Ilchat Sabirov, and Miguel Ángel Rodiel from IMDEA Materials.
“Through this strategic alliance, we will be able to offer companies working in the manufacturing and transformation of metallic materials a complete simulation platform based on sustainable metallurgy, advanced characterisation techniques, modelling, numerical methods, and artificial intelligence,” said Torralba, Director of IMDEA Materials.
A second meeting will soon be organised at CIMNE’s facilities in Barcelona to continue advancing the action plan and expand the scope of this alliance internationally.
