BIOMET4D researchers showcase project at WAB2024
Several BIOMET4D researchers have taken part in the Workshop on Additive Biofabrication (WAB2024) as Invited Speakers. Those who presented include Dr. Jennifer Patterson and Prof. Javier LLorca from IMDEA materials Institute and Prof. Andrés Díaz Lantada and William Solórzano from the Technical University of Madrid.

Modelling biological skin tissue at the European Society of Biomechanics
Dr. Conall Quinn from the NUIG has presented on the “Mechanoregulatory Framework for Skin Growth” and his work on the BIOMET4D project at the 29th Congress of the European Society for Biomechanics. He showcased how collagen fibre networks can be used to model the hyperelasticity, anisotropicity, and porosity of biological skin tissue.

Dr. Jon Molina presents an overview of BIOMET4D at EMMC19 in Madrid
IMDEA Materials’ Dr. Jon Molina, leader of the Institute’s Micromechancis and Nanomechanics reseach group, has provided an overview of the BIOMET4D project at the European Mechanics of Materials Conference held in Madrid, Spain. The presentation focused on the current status of the project and the progress achieved so far.

BIOMET4D on show at 19th European Mechanics of Materials Conference
A phase field model of chemo-electro-mechanical processes during corrosion of bioabsorbable Mg. alloys for biomedical applications was presented by IMDEA Materials researcher, Prof. Javier LLorca at EMMC 19. He highlighted results focused on Mg alloy corrosion in the framework of the BIOMET4D project. This research was carried out in conjunction with Oxford University and the Technical University of Madrid.

Prof. Javier LLorca shares BIOMET4D research on Mg. alloy corrosion
Prof. Javier LLorca, leader of IMDEA Materials’ Bio/Chemo/Mechanics of Materials research group, has presented BIOMET4D results focused on the corrosion of Mg. alloys at the 153rd Annual Meeting and Exhibition of TMS 2024. This included research related the modelling of environmentally assisted cracking of bioabsorbable Mg. alloys for biomedical applications.

Biodegradable devices: A design approach based on cellular automation
BIOMET4D researchers, Prof. Andrés Díaz Lantada and William Solórzano from the Technical University of Madrid have presented on the rapid prototyping approach for simulating and validating biodegradable biodevices by means of combining cellular automata, finite element modeling and biodegradable combinations of printed polymers. The presentation took place at the BIODEVICES 2024 conference in Rome, Italy.

BIOMET4D results related to craniosynostosis treatment highlighted
Dr. Santiago Ochandiano from the General University Hospital Gregorio Marañón in Madrid has shared project results related to their potential for craniosynostosis treatment’s, one of BIOMET4D’s proof-of-comcept applications. The presentation was given as part of the Translational Symposium on New Technologies in Maxillofacial Surgery.

Paediatric medical community a focus for BIOMET4D dissemination
Project results from the BIOMET4D project were shared with experts from the paediatric medical community as part of Dr. Santiago Ochandiano’s presentation at the 24th “Jornadas Encuentro Pediatría – Odontopediatría” held at the General University Hospital Gregorio Marañón in Madrid.

BIOMET4D featured at ECCOMAS CMCS2023 Conference
IMDEA Materials and BIOMET4D researcher, Prof. Javier LLorca gave a presentation on the computational modelling of complex materials across the scales at CMCS2023 in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. As part of the presentation, Prof. Llorca highlighted results from BIOMET4D focused on the corrosion of Mg alloys in the framework of the project.

BIOMET4D's Prof. Javier LLorca presents at COMPLAS 2023
Prof. Javier Llorca has presented results from BIOMET4D focused on the corrosion of Mg alloys at COMPLAS 2023. This included his research on phase-field modelling of pitting and mechanically-assisted corrosion of Mg alloys for biomedical applications, undertaken in conjunction with researchers from the Technical University of Madrid and Imperial College London.

BIOMET4D researcher Dr. Jon Molina delivers keynote at AAMS2023
IMDEA Materials Institute Deputy Director, Dr. Jon Molina, has delivered a keynote presentation at the Alloys for Additive Manufacturing Symposium (AAMS2023) at the Carlos III University in Madrid, Spain on the 4D printing of metallic alloys towards novel shape morphing of medical devices, in which he has highlighted the BIOMET4D project.

15th International Symposium on Biodegradable Metals - Biometal 2023
IMDEA Materials and BIOMET4D researchers Blanca Limones and Muzi Li have this week been taking part in the 15th International Symposium on Biodegradable Metals, Biometal 2023. The symposium, being held in Cetraro, Italy, has featured a number of sessions, round tables and think tanks related to biodegradable metals over the course of the week.
