Record number of IMDEA Materials Institute Researchers Recognised among World’s Top 2% Most-Cited Scientists

A record 13 IMDEA Materials Institute researchers have been recognised among the world’s Top 2% of scientists by citation impact in their field in the most recent annual ranking compiled by Stanford University (United States) and the academic journal Elsevier.

The Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% ranking is developed from Scopus bibliometric data and classifies researchers into 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields. It uses a composite citation indicator (c-score) that integrates several metrics, including total citations, h-index, hm-index (which adjusts for co-authorship), and citations to papers where the scientist is single, first, or last author.

Two lists are produced each year: one for career-long impact, which evaluates the researcher’s work over their entire career, and one for single-year impact, which focuses on research influence during the most recent year.

IMDEA Materials’ newest entry among those to feature in the single-year impact rankings is Dr. Biaobiao Yang, a member of the institute’s Bio/Chemo/Mechanics of Materials research group, led by Prof. Javier LLorca.

Prof. LLorca himself features on both the career and single-year rankings, alongside fellow Senior Researchers Profs./Drs. Harun Tüysüz, De-Yi Wang, José Manuel Torralba, Andrés Díaz Lantada, María Teresa Pérez Prado, Johan Christensen, Carlos González and Javier Segurado.

The career rankings also recognise Profs./Drs. Ilchat Sabirov and Jon Molina, while Prof/Dr. Maciej Haranczyk features alongside Dr. Yang on the single-year list.

The strong showing of IMDEA Materials researchers in the rankings consolidates its reputation as one of Europe’s leading centres for advanced materials science and engineering.
